The Hare Krishna Bhakti Academy is a volunteer-run community initiative of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), bringing the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita to neighbourhoods right across Sydney.

Whether you are taking your first step on the spiritual path or deepening a lifelong practice, our classes offer authentic philosophy, heart-melting kirtan, character education for children, and the warmth of sangha — community. Everyone is welcome, and every program is completely free.

Yes — the Bhakti Academy is a volunteer community initiative of ISKCON (the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, the Hare Krishna movement) here in Sydney. We share ISKCON's teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and the chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra in neighbourhood halls across Greater Western Sydney, lovingly continuing the mission of Srila Prabhupada, the Founder-Ācārya of ISKCON.
Where can I find Bhagavad Gita and Krishna classes near me in Sydney?
We hold classes at five venues across Greater Western Sydney: Rosehill Public School (Rosehill), Harris Park Community Centre (Harris Park), Boronia Grove Community Centre (Epping), Wentworthville Community Centre (Wentworthville) and Westmead Progress Hall (Westmead). They are easy to reach from surrounding suburbs including Parramatta, Granville, Merrylands, Auburn, Lidcombe, Strathfield, Toongabbie, Pendle Hill, Seven Hills and Eastwood — all close to train stations.
When are the Hare Krishna classes held?
All classes begin at 5:30 PM. Sundays: Rosehill, Harris Park and Epping, plus our Youth classes at Harris Park. Saturdays: Wentworthville and Westmead. Times occasionally change, so it's best to register and a local coordinator will confirm details with you.
Are the classes really free?
Yes — every program is offered freely, for all ages, with no cost and no obligation. The Bhakti Academy is a volunteer community initiative of ISKCON (the Hare Krishna movement). Simply come as you are.
Do I need to be Hindu or know anything about the Bhagavad Gita to attend?
Not at all. Whether you are taking your first step on the spiritual path or deepening a lifelong practice, you are warmly welcome. Classes are designed for complete beginners as well as experienced practitioners, and everyone of any background or faith is invited.
I have children — is there something for them?
Yes. Our Kids Gurukul offers stories, values, art and fun — character education rooted in Vedic culture. Families with children are warmly welcome at every location, and there is no charge.
Do you have classes for teenagers and young adults?
Yes — we run dedicated Youth classes at the Harris Park Community Centre every Sunday at 5:30 PM, a welcoming space for teenagers and young adults to explore Bhakti philosophy, kirtan and community. Email info@bhaktiacademy.au to find out more.
What is kirtan and chanting?
Kirtan is uplifting devotional music and group meditation on the holy names of God — including the Hare Krishna maha-mantra. No musical experience is needed; it is simply a joyful, heart-melting practice that everyone can share in together.
What is prasadam? Is the food vegetarian?
Prasadam is sanctified vegetarian food, lovingly prepared and offered to Lord Krishna before being shared. It is always pure vegetarian. Honouring prasadam together is a delicious and nourishing part of every class — a feast for both body and soul.
Which class is closest to my suburb?
If you're in Parramatta, Granville, Merrylands or Auburn, Rosehill and Harris Park are closest. From Toongabbie, Pendle Hill or Seven Hills, Wentworthville and Westmead are most convenient. From Eastwood, Carlingford or Epping, the Epping class is nearest. Visitors from Lidcombe or Strathfield are an easy train ride to any of our Parramatta-area venues.
